We Become What We Behold
Game Desc
"We Become What We Behold" is a short, impactful browser game developed by Nicky Case. Released in 2016, the game explores how media shapes public perception and social behavior by creating a self-reinforcing cycle of fear, anger, and divisiveness.
How To Play
In this point-and-click game, players act as an observer with a camera, capturing moments from a small pixelated community to display on screens that influence the residents. Initially, the player is encouraged to photograph lighthearted interactions. However, as the game progresses, it becomes clear that shocking or inflammatory moments provoke stronger reactions, mirroring how sensationalism often drives media in real life. Through these snapshots, the community gradually devolves into chaos, culminating in a powerful commentary on the impact of media on social division.
